Successful Air Transport of ECMO Patients from Bhubaneswar to Delhi By Emsos

ECMO Patient Transfer From Bhubaneswar To Delhi

53 Yrs/male, K/C/O, CKD, DM, HTN & Morbid Obesity was taken to ER of local hospital at BBSR with c/o Pain & swelling left lower leg with high grade fever.

Post all investigations, ECG showed LBBB, USG showed diffuse S/C edema noted in left leg lateral medial & anterior aspects, S/O Cellulitis. He was managed with broad spectrum ABS and other supportive measures.

Patient developed SOB & Tachycardia at hospital, intubated & kept on mechanical ventilation. Patient had two episodes of Pulseless VT and 1 episode of VF which was managed with DC shock and other ER measures.

Post stabilization, family of the patient planned to shift him to higher centre at Delhi but due to poos prognosis, Drs recommended to take patient on ECMO and transfer.

So family of the patient got in touch with EMSOS team to transfer the patient to Delhi on urgent basis post ECMO initiation. EMSOS ECMO Team was activated on emergent basis and planned the Med evac via Air Ambulance.

Team EMSOS managed to obtain all clearances urgently, planned and executed the Med evac succesfully, transferred patient to Tertiary care facility in Delhi in stable condition. ECMO initiation was completed in records time- 1.30 hrs by team succesfully.

Patient Summary: T2 DM, HTN, CKD, UTI with sepsis; Septic shock, severe ARDS, Cellulitis Lt lower limb- on ECMO

Status during transport:  Stable but critical
